So, as part of my New Year's Resolutions, I decided to start a blog- why, I'm not sure. It's not as though I lead a terribly interesting life, have any unusual interests, or hold any strong opinions or view points on any current events or positions.
I suppose it's because I'm always hearing people say, "you should check out my blog," or "did you read his/her blog last night," and the fact that several of my friends and relatives have one. In short, basically because everyone else is doing it (I can hear my mother now- "if everyone else jumped off a cliff, would you?").
So, a bit about me- I'm a nearly twenty-six year-old working as an admin assistant at law firm downtown. My job consists almost entirely of taking messages for the person who I nominally consider my boss (it's a very long story), and processing invoices- lots of invoices. It's a boring, repetitive, and mostly thankless job, but, it does pay decently, and I am rather fond of having a roof over my head, and food in the fridge.
In my spare time you can find me either in the kitchen, at the gym, dance lessons, doing laundry, or with my nose in a book- I read mostly non-fiction- history/social/economic topics- mostly a mix of all three. I'm not terribly political at all- in the last presidential election I believe I voted for the Communist candidate- not that I'm a Commie (better dead than red, you know!), but no one particularly floated my boat. I'm also not religious at all- to borrow a phrase from my cousin, I'm a non-denominational atheist. Normally this doesn't cause a problem, but it does make it very hard to spend Christmas with the grandparents- good, old-fashioned Midwestern cradle Catholics all.
I have a rather varied taste in both movies and tv shows, and have been told by more than one person that I have no taste in music at all- whatever I like, I watch/listen to.
Well, enough of all the personal detail- it's starting to sound like an overly long personal ad. I thought it might be fun to post the rest of my resolutions, and see how well I actually do this year. Normally I've forgotten most of them by now, but I was smart this year and actually wrote them down.
New Year's Resolutions:
1) start blog (we're off to a good start on that one)
2) learn a new language
3) become proficient in the use of a firearm
4) read more "classic" literature
5) learn to parallel park
6) curb the swearing
7) get a tattoo
(now the more personal, get healthy stuff everyone resolves to do)
8) maintain weight
9) build upper body strength
10) eat more vegetables
Numbers 3 and 5 will have to wait until summer, when I move back home, and will actually need to buy a car, and there will be several firing ranges within an easy distance- right now, I can't get to one using public transportation. Public transportation is, in general, a wonderful thing, but you do put yourself at the mercy of the bus routes/times.
Well, the clock informs me that it is getting rather late, and I do need to go into work early tomorrow, so I should head towards bed.
